"Blessed" for a second time --  Once again blood PLATELETS have saved my life! In the month of May 2012, I was diagnosed with an enlarged aorta and leaking aortic valve. My Cardiologist (from John Hopkins) said that the damaged was caused from my battle with leukemia, five year ago. Five years ago, Dr. Cantrell and his team at St. Vincents Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama provided me the blood platelets I needed to stay alive long enough to be treated and survive leukemia (I was pronounce "cured" in December of 2011). Now I was leaning on Dr. Lars Svensson and his team at the Cleveland Clinic to repair my aorta and leaking aortic valve. Blood Platelet Donors made this opportunity all possible! For without platelets, my health would not have been good enough to undergo such an invasive operation. I had this operation on August 15th, 2012 -- and today feel great! -- going to the gym every other day and living a normal life -- once again. If you have read this far, Please take the time to scan the rest of this web site, learn a little more about how important blood platelet donations are -- and then donate platelets, the next chance you can, if you can..........thank you! "Where There Is Hope, There Is Life!"

Platelets  -- DO -- save lives -- I can personally attest to the fact that blood platelets DO save lives. In July of 2007, I almost died because of a platelet shortage in the Birmingham, Alabama area. At the last minute", I received the platelets I needed to keep me alive long enough to be treated for leukemia. Just this past December (2011), I was told that I do not have to go back to the hospital anymore for monitoring -- because I was "cured". Please show up to our platelet drives in August -- there are always others in our local hospitals that need your help.

Platelet Drives Help Educate -- See "Calendar Page" for pictures, and results of recent platelet drives held within our community.  Donating blood platelets is much different than donating whole blood -- and due to the constant shortage and very short "shelf-life -- the need is more critical in saving lives of patients with blood disorders, cancers and those undergoing heart surgeries.

A very "BIG THANK YOU" goes out to LifeSouth for supporting the Liquid Gold Project!
